Indonesia calls for duty on steel imports

The Indonesia Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI) says it will ask the government to impose antidumping duties of up to 68% on imported cold rolled coil and sheet steel to stop dumping.

Steel imports from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam have seriously injured local manufacturers of similar items, KADI chairman Bachrul Chairi said in Jakarta 21 Dec.

KADI propose that the government impose a duty ranging between 10% to 68% on imported steel from the five nations, with the largest duty reserved for China, Indonesia’s biggest source of imported cold rolled coil and sheet steel, Bachrul said.

The investigation follows a report by The Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) requested by local manufacturers — PT Bluescope Steel Indonesia and PT Sunrise Steel — which claims they have suffered serious injury due to the significant rise in imports.
